ONE MONTH LEFT TO SUBMIT YOUR ART!!

Here’s the submission guidelines again:

I want to see the queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race being best friends; doing each other’s nails, eating ice cream while watching soaps, going on vacation together, being each other’s wingwoman, all the sort of things that best friends do!

Submit illustrations, comics, limericks, whatever your little heart inspires you to do. Try to keep it PG-13 – kiki yes, kaikai no. Don’t feel obligated to try too hard on that front though.

This will be a B&W zine, with the first print run funded by my own well-meaning pocket. Because of this, I can’t offer to pay you for your submission, but I can offer you free copies of the final product as well as a print-ready PDF for you to do all the hard work of folding and stapling! YAY!

Tech specs:

Black & white (greyscale, halftones, etc are ok)
8.5”x7” (half legal), with 0.125” bleed, at 300 dpi
Between 1-3 pages
Deadline: June 15th, to have it ready in time for SPX

Class this Sunday, May 12 at Hill Country Weavers in Austin, TX!

11 AM - 2 PM, only $25 plus materials
(if you have never needle felted before and don’t have any wool or needles, bring $10 extra and you’ll be more than covered)

RuPaul's Best Friend Race ZINE SUBMISSION CALL!

Since their inception and boom in the early 90’s, competition-based reality shows have been host to the frequently uttered phrase, “I’M NOT HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS.” More often than not, participants with a cutthroat attitude and strong strategies get pretty far (just like in the real world, one could argue, if one’s a dick). Reality shows are mostly pretty horrible in many, many ways.

RuPaul’s Drag Race, however, is fucking amazing. While you do have your PhiPhis and your Roxxxys and your Heatherses, the great majority of the relationships between contestants are close, sincere, tender and constructive. As a season progresses, the public watches drag families quickly form.

Moreover, drag queens are fabulous and fun as hell to draw. So I’m putting together a fanzine celebrating drag friendships!

My piece for Stitched, which opens April 13th at Clutter Gallery, in Beacon NY. The show was curated by Lana Crooks, plushmaker extraordinaire, and showcases a lot of incredibly talented artists working in soft sculpture. I admire them all and I feel honored to be part of this show!

The piece is called Other Side and it’s 29” tall, making it the biggest art piece I’ve made in the last four years. The show is open until May 4th, so be sure to stop by and have a look.
